Loft in the Beach – Toronto

Within steps of the beach in Toronto’s east end, this combination office and apartment building required a complete overhaul of its interior and exterior.

The exterior frontage was completely transformed using large energy-efficient windows and a new skin of Gemstone. The former restaurant interior was swept away and a glass-partitioned office space was created in its place, featuring the interior design of Susan Calhoun of Collage Designs. The second floor loft saw most of its partitions eliminated, to be replaced by an open plan featuring panoramic views out over the Beach neighbourhood. Privacy was ensured through the use of acoustic insulation and very good sound-attenuating windows. A wide palette of natural materials characterizes the loft, with the use of striking colours set against a backdrop of reclaimed lumber floors and white walls.
